Question:
Those who order from petfooddirect.com?

I was comparing prices with this site as well as Petsmart and Petco. Petfooddirect has shipping as $10.49 which is almost 1/2 of the total amount of the product being purchased. Petco has shipping as $4.99 but charges tax of $1.22 and is $.49 more expensive for the same product but I would still save $3.78 by purchasing from Petco.

Why do you all say it's cheaper to purchase from petfooddirect.com? Does this site gives you discounts after you make your first purchase?

Once you order from them, you get these monthly e-coupons that are from 18% to 22% off. That more than makes up for the shipping costs. I only order from them when i have one of those coupons, which requires a bit of planning and a big order, but I save money.

I don't have many options other than Petco (expensive) and Petsmart. There are two small stores where I can get Wellness and Merrick, but they are a hike for me, and in two different directions. I can't get EVO without going to yet a third store in a high-traffic area about half an hour from me. So until I'm done going three different places, with gas at $2.60 a gallon, it's really not that much more to order from them, if you wait for those big coupons.

You can find coupons by doing a search "petfooddirect coupons" I found $5 off $30 $10 off $100

18% off code PET3699B

http://www.couponcabin.com/coupons/pet-food-direct/

Petco coupons can be found here (10 % off no min/ 10% off and free shipping on orders $65+): http://www.retailmenot.com/view/petco.com

You can sign up for site like ebates.com or bigcrumbs.com to get a small percentage back, a rebate, when you buy stuff.

With bigcrumbs.com you can get back up to 8.1% (depends if your a CrumbSaver or CrumbEarner) when you buy from petco.

I agree. I've priced just about all the foods I buy locally and with their shipping so high it's not a savings at all.

It could be, though, that the people buying food from there just don't have those foods in their area. Other than that I really don't see why anyone would order from them.

Most people don't think about the price of shipping or taxes added to the final cost. They just see the price of the food and assume its cheaper than elsewhere.
