Why is my 4 month old kitten peeing around the house?

He knows where the litter box is, and uses it most of the time, but every now and then he will pee on blankets, the laundry hamper, a few other places. We have an older cat, they get along great, and she does not do this. Any thoughts?

You might think your cats get on great but they can be very sly and territorial actions can easily go unmissed. Make sure you have more than one litter tray in a different location - ideally with 2 cats you should have 3 trays as some cats don't like to pee and poo in the same tray. Make sure the trays are kept clean (scooped as soon as possible and thoroughly washed each week). If he uses the litter tray most of the time, are you sure it is being kept clean enough for him all the time? Also, as he gets older and heavier, is the type of litter you are using uncomfortable on his paws? Litter should be as close to sand as possible as this is gentle on their paws.
You will need to thoroughly clean the areas he has used inappropriately using biological washing liquid - a cat's sense of smell is 14 times greater than our own so he will easily go back to the wrong place if it is not cleaned properly.
At 4 months you should be thinking about getting him neutered and this might help the problem.

Sometimes when a cat suddenly starts peeing on the rug or outside his litter box, it is because they are sick. If he has never done this before and suddenly started doing it, then you should probably take him to the vet.
If he just does it sometimes then maybe he doesn't have time to get to the box. Make sure to put a box in the rooms where he plays the most. If you keep the 2 cats together in a smaller area, then maybe he will learn from the older cat the proper things to do.
Also make sure that the litter box is clean. Some cats are very picky and won't use the box if it is even slightly dirty. Your older cat might not mind as much and thats why she keeps using it.
Mostly its probably because hes just 4 months old. Depending on the cat, it can take awhile for them to become completely trained.

He is spraying his territory because of other cat-neutering can deter it because it wont have the craving of being dominant but not a sure deal
Nuetering is a GOOD thing though so go ahead and do it will eliminate alot of other problems associated with tom cats

Normally it is because of the type of litter you buy, or the area the box is in. Some cats don't like the smell or feel of some kinds of litter. Or they can't find the box.

It could be be that he's starting to establish his territory. Un-neutered male cats tend to do this around that age. Best advice? Talk to or call your vet. They'll know the most.

If he is not neutered he could be "marking." My female kitten started this last week. She is being spayed on Monday because the vet thinks she is going to go into her first heat cycle soon.

They do when:
litter tray is not clean or placed somewhere insecure or could not get into it easily
anxious-baby, dog, new place, separation
Urinary track infection

He is still young; you need to train him.
Take him out on the grass and let him sniff it around;
he will pee.
or buy training pads, at petco, and pet them around the house, step by step leading it to the litter box.
He'll learn!

He is still young. Make sure you scold him when he does it, he will realize he is being naughty.
