Do you think my kitten will pull through?

My cat had 5 kittens, on the second day 2 passed away. She had them under my porch, so they havent been really easy to get too. I took a board off so I could check on the rest, one has a deformed leg. the top of the rear hind leg is kind of enlarged, with the bottom part flat as a peice of paper, and dangling there. Looks like it never properly formed. This is kind of gross, but the bottom part is dying off, and looks like the mommy is trying to chew the bottom part off, trying to help her kitten. I called the vet, they said its best to let nature take its course, that there wasnt much they could do that would make it better, and to put neosporin on it. It is nursing just fine and the mommy is taking care of it. It is now 5 days old, and other than the leg situation, seems ok. I just started putting neosporin on it, which I plan on doing daily while its alive. Do you all think it will live? I wonder if infection will set in and kill it???Any care advice would be appreciated!

Don't use H2O2 on an open wound. If the vet has approved the use of neosporin just clean the old off. I always have witch hazel in the house to use for that kind of cleanup. It is only mildly antiseptic and won't cause irritation or pain when used.

I am concerned that the mother is chewing on the leg and ingesting the neosporin. Is the vet aware of that?
she finally here and all mine!

always clean it and see about getting a second opinion infection could take over. I would get a second opinion the vet may not be able to save the leg but it keeps u from having to see it get infection and suffer. most vets tell u to bring it in and give they give u some kind of med to pervent an infection for sure.

Sorry to hear about kittens back leg.

well the kitten needs to have neosporin on it but you should call the vet and ask about peroxide.

Wishing you the best of luck.

DO NOT WASH THE WOUND WITH PEROXIDE!!

Peroxide may be ok to initially clean a wound, but it is cyto-toxic -meaning that it will damage healing cells. You will cause more harm than good to a healing wound with continued use of peroxide. (This goes for people too.)

Follow your vets advice. It doesn't sound like it's too hopeful, let nature take it's course. Heroic measures aren't always the kindest thing.

if it's just the leg it should live, just clean off the area before you apply the new neosporin. and unless you are going to adot the kitten and bring her into your home, i agree with the vet and let nature take its course

I would follow the advice that the Vet gave you. The mother cat will do what her instinct tells her and it's a good chance that the kitten will survive.
