Well I was looking on this site and some woman is giving her cat for free I contacted her and she said that she's still looking for a home for her cat and she said that If I want to adopt the cat that I can. But normally do you go to the owner's home to collect the cat or does the owner have to come to your house?

Depends, sometimes they want to come to you to see where the cat will be living, but most of the time, you go to them. But if its a far distance, they may be willing to meet you somewhere.

Hi Lucy, I would say it could go both ways. Some people want to see the home to where their cat will soon live. Unfortunately some people who answer ads for free animals use them during dog fights ( to get the dogs hyped up) Horrible. Anyway I would say protocol, if she doesnt say anything about it first, would be you go to her since you are the one getting something from her. :) Might be good for you also to see what conditions the cat has been living in ( ex other animals, cleanliness, what it has been fed, if it was inside or outside, etc) I would also, just as a precaution, get it a feline leukemia test and vaccine. Hope this answered ?. Good Luck with new kitty.

Before adopting a cat for the first time, do your homework to avoid these top mistakes made by new cat owners. By avoiding these mistakes, you and your cat will have a much better chance at a happy long-term relationship.

LOL! Like there's a "standard" to this? Just ask her how she wants to give the cat to you. Personally I would never have someone like this know where I live. What if she then decides she wants the cat back later and shows up at your door demanding it?

DO make sure you get something in writing that states that you she is transferring ownership to you and that is signed by her. You can write this up to be sure you have something. Also get any medical records.

You go to their house. You are the one who wants the cat, so you have to go to them.
