Why would you want to? Cats need stimulation.

If you are worried about moist floors, place a small towel under the bowl.

Another possibility is one of those cat dishes with a fountain. your cat will probably love it and since the fountain is in the middle, the water he bats will stay in the bowl.

I honestly don't think you can. I have a cat that has always done it and I've never been able to stop him. If you want, you could either put something absorbent under the water dish or put it somewhere that getting surfaces around it won't hurt anything. Whatever you do, don't punish the cat! I've always believed that Hamlet, my cat, plays with his water for two reaons: He's making sure that there's really water in the bowl and he's being a big pain in the butt!! ^_^ After all, they *are* cats, aren't they?

I had this problem with my cats. I thought they were playing, but in reality it was an accident. I ended up having to buy a bit heavier water bowl from the pet store. It was a small dogs bowl and had a rubber grip on the bottom. I weighed enough that when they cuddled up to drink it, it would not spill and the rubber kept it from sloshing around.

Some cats like to do that. Put his bowl in a larger container, like a baking pan. Then the water will not go on the floor. You might even consider putting his drinking bowl in the bathtub or a sink that you don't use much.

Of all things cats do to annoy their people, having a drinking problem is a new one. I wouldn't worry about it. He could be doing a lot worse.

buying a big dog, he will not have time to play or spill in the water...

Sell it. (The cat not the water)
