How old does my male kitten have to be before he can be fixed?

There are two schools of thought that some vets argue about. 5-7 weeks and around 6 months. For males it isn't as big of a deal. But for females, Female cats are spayed: this is an invasive operation where the uterus and ovaries are removed (ovario-hysterectomy). I had my boy and girl done at 5 weeks old and now they are both 10 yrs old and doing great!
