Question:
My cat won't stop crying?

My 3-year-old cat Patch was recently pregnant. About a week before she went into labor, she started meowing at my husband and I constantly if we left her alone. I know some cats do get really clingy/vocal near the end of their pregnancy, so that wasn't really a problem. Well, two days ago, she gave birth to two stillborn kittens. The first she had in our closet, which she had chosen and I set up for her. The second she had at the vet because it had not come out after four hours. The vet told us she was fine, but that we should watch her carefully to make sure she doesn't get sick.

Now, Patch has always been an inside cat, but as soon as we got home from the vet she was just dying to get outside. Ever since then, she has been crying constantly at random times during the day. She'll just come into the living room and cry very loudly. There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with her. She does everything else as she normally would. It's just the crying. Mostly at the front door or the window, but sometimes she cries at us, too. Not sure if I'm right, but I'm assuming it's because she wants out so badly, though I have no idea why! There are no other cats around, and our apartment is closer to the back so there's not usually that many people passing by. She's not in heat, because she's acting normally except for the crying. We keep her well fed and her litter box is always clean. She plays with her sister daily, and we give her plenty of attention, so she's not lonely. We try not to give her any attention while she's crying, though, only when she's quiet because I don't want her to start thinking that crying so loudly will get her attention. And it's only during the day. She doesn't cry that much at night. She sleeps most of the night, usually with us or in the closet the past few days.

It's driving me crazy! And I know my neighbors can hear her, and I don't want them to start complaining! How can I stop my cat from crying so much?

Sounds like she's in heat. She's three years old - you've waited too long to get her spayed already. Every cycle she goes through is stressful for her, and increases her chances of mammary cancer. She will also be at risk of pyometra, a life-threatening infection of the uterus, until you get her spayed.

If cost is a concern, here's a link to low cost spay resources:

You can also do a google search for "low cost spay" and your zip code for a program near you. Whatever you do, please do not allow her outside until she's been fixed.

Unspayed female cats will yowl constantly to get out and find a male. Mating for a female cat is not roses and candelight dinners. The cat mating process is a rough one for cats, they often get bite wounds. The males could be carrying diseases (most of end up fatal), Leukemia, fip, cat aids ,hemobartinella, etc) that ur cat will catch. Already she has had trouble bearing kittens This must have been very heartbreaking and nerve wracking for you and for Patch, too. (Not to mention $$$$ at the vets), thank u fr doing the right thing and helping her. Check all the troubles on the old posts here with cats having kittens, dead kittens, dying kittens, hemmorhaging, etc on and on not to mention how hard it is to place the kittens with people u can REALLY be sure will treat them right. U say she is not in heat but this could still be her hormones preparing for heat, or she could be calling for her dead kittens :o( ... Hope there is no infection or after effects of the kitten bearing going on , you sound like a concerned cat owner that loves Patch, so hopefully u will know to take her back to the vet if u see somethings not right. Now may be the time to make that appointment to have her spayed. Some cats will constantly have trouble bearing kittens and she may be one of them or have mated with a male carrying some disease that affected the kittens... it can all be avoided by spaying her. She will be safe from all these problems as will you also. ALso she will not get cancer of the uterus or breast, very common in unspayed females and usually fatal. By the time u realize she has symptoms it is usually too late to save her. Also pyometra is common too (uterine infection), ends up in u having to spay her anyway when she has a serious infection and could die from the surgery. This sounds like the only answer to tell you. Females will go into heat more an more often as time goes by, and yes, the yelling drives us nuts , as well as inappropriate peeing (marking) and tom cats coming around spraying very stinky urine on your house. They do that and that will really tick off your neighbors big time.. as well as get Patch yelling all the more..Try some of the links others have mentioned to find lo cost spay/neuter programs in ur area, ask the local pet shelters if they know any, or if u have some one who gives your family or you birthday or holiday gifts maybe they would give u an early one and pay to have this kitty spayed for you, instead. Many vets have payment plans with 0 interest if u pay the balance in a certain time frame and u would be saving $$$$$ in the long run compared to what could happen in the long run (my friend just had a case of pyometra in her dog about 3 years old who she never spayed because of short money.. Now the dog got so very sick w the pyometra she would have died, it was touch and go and cost her a lot more money to save and spay the dog sick like this, she borrowed some $$$$ from her grown kids and put the rest on a payment plan and the vet gave her 10per cent discount cuz shes a disabled lady,, It ws much more expensive than a normal spay.. Just thinking of the long run for you... Bless your family and kitty and take care.

Could your cat have an ailment? Cats are very susceptible to Bladder/kidney infections. This could also be a possibiltiy. Or he might simply be being a suffering within the rear and traumatic that, on the grounds that he's up, you will have to be up with him too. Cats are probably the most tricky "mentally" of any of our pets. They are sensible they usually believe. That is what makes it so rough. Is his meals dish empty at the moment within the morning. Do you supply him a particular deal with within the am to devour. Many individuals supply their cats rainy cat meals within the morning and the dry for the duration of the day. He might wish his meals now! does he move external? He might have got to move out if he's used to this. I wish he isn't crying for his kit you had eliminated a bit of in the past! hehe. (I imply his testies). Otherwise simply preserve attempting matters to peer what he needs. Believe it or now not, animals keep in mind trauma. Getting "constant" will also be very worrying for them. He might simply want a few additional love and reassurance that you're there and may not permit anybody harm him once more. Give him time and love. Keep looking to see whether it is somethig else he might want, however loosen up, the extra you strain - the extra he's going to.

Maybe she is mourning her lost kittens. Try playing soft music on a radio. Or try to find something to get her to pay attention to something else. She is probably just very sad. Maybe she is looking for the father to tell him, or to try again. Are you sure she didnt have any babies outside? Maybe she has been separated from them and needs to go outside and feed them.

Her maternal instincts have kicked in and she is looking for her kittens. Her crying will fade over time. I recommend that you have her spayed as soon as the vets will perform the surgery.
