I am living in a place where I am not allowed to own a cat but there is no way I could get rid of my precious little baby. So, I have been keeping my drapes pinned shut so she can't go in the window because unfortunately, my window is very noticeable to people outside. Is there anyway to keep her out of the window, maybe something that would repel her that I could put on the window sill. I miss the natural light lol. Does anyone know of any kind of window tint that I could put on the bottom part of the window maybe? I'm not sure what to do but any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks.

Line the window sill with double-sided tape. After the first time she gets her paws on it, she probably won't jump again.

If she does, sprinkle pepper on the window sill. She'll learn very fast not to jump up there. She'll be annoyed, but she won't be hurt.

Look at this link: http://cats.about.com/cs/catmanagement101/a/catrepellants.htm They also suggest vinegar and citrus. Perhaps orange peels on the sill will help or cotton balls with orange extract on them. I think I'll try this myself. I have a four month old kitten who is slightly out-of-control. Good Luck. PS A landlord will not kill your cat if you get caught!

Put aluminum foil on the sill. When she jumps up, she won't like the sound and will get down. This is the method used to keep cats out of baby's cribs, so i'm sure it'll work on a window sill!

I know people that have dealt with this dilemma. Try using a squirt bottle as a window deterrent. I've heard of people using window tints and shutters, so the only light comes in from the top. There are curtains that let light in, but give inside privacy from peepers.

can you find a video specifically to entertain cats? Maybe a 2nd tv would be useful. Shutters may work. I have looked at outside shutters that are solid and made of plastic.

There are window films that probably would work. They are sold at places like Home Depot and Lowes, and are made by Gila films. They can be put on and removed. For your situation, they have short rolls that are used in door entry way side glasses that might work. They are opaque or frosted or even like stained glass.

It's the view that attracts the cat.

You already mentioned that you have to keep the blinds shut or the curtains drawn.

Cats are very curious and highly terriorial animals.

It's gonna be hard to suppress those instincts with some spray.

Either train her, or close the view.

ok well a cat has a natural Instinct they are attracted to light and moving thing so if there are a lot of colors and things that move by that window then she/he wants to go after it but try and spritzing her with water

when you see her get up there and if you have time try playing with her and buying her toys but put them in a room where no one else can go in so no one will tell about her and if you have an inspection on some day maybe buy a little shed or something and store them in idk

but cats have instincts to go after something moving and you could maybe give her/him to a friend for a while until you get enough money to move and preferably for the cat someone with another cat because cats love play mates

but that is my idea hope it works

There's actually this can of water you can buy that has motion sensory. Put it on the window seal and when your cat jumps on it, the can will spray and scare it off. It won't hurt her, just scare her untill she learns not to get in the window.

I think it's being sold. I'm not sure. I saw it on a website somehwere.

How about the big heavy plastic blinds. The faux wood kind.

The cat probably won't be able to get between them or sit on the window either if you have those.

Since when did violating a no-pets policy in a lease become a CRIME??? LOL!

I would try putting something else in the window so she can't get to it

Try tobasco sauce. Cats find the scent repulsive and will have nothing to do with it.

Please put in some "tinted glass."

Cats by nature are "hunters. So they sit at the window,

and watch for the birds and bugs.

Sticky tape or aluminum foil on the sill - they apparently don't like the feeling on their little feet. Train her with a spray bottle - give a little spray when she (or he) starts to jump up there.

Good luck!

where do you live? are landlords seriously not allowed to tell u that u can have cats??? i was told that they are unable to say anything about a caged animal...but why cant they say u cant have cats? i too have 2 cats the kitten wants to be in the window ALL the time as in the past week, before that she NEVER went in the window...and my 5yr old was in the window and i told her she couldnt do that anymore or we would get kicked out and she hasnt gone in the window since...and that was months ago...i moved in with my boyfriend only to find out a month later that "no pets allowed" policy was on his lease. i have 2 caged ferrets that are 6 & 7yrs old and i had my cat tiger that is 5yrs old. then when we moved in we rescued this kitten from outside around my grandmothers house. the lady above us and across the hall told the landlord that we had a cat...so the landlord called my boyfriend and said we had to get rid of her and to call her when we did....well, i have lived here since may he was here since april and it is now september and we are still here....with the cats....and ferrets.....she hasnt called him back...but she goes to the lady next door and always asks her if shes seen cats here....and even though the lady next door is ALLERGIC to cats....she lies for us and tells her no...she told us that she doesnt care if we have them because u cant smell them we keep a clean house and they dont go in her apartment....she even plays with our cats.....so....if the person that lives across the hall and is allergic to them doesnt have a problem with us having them....why does the lady that lives upstairs and on the oppisite side of the building care....so....we are trying to find a way to keep the lil one out of the window...she is only going on 5mnths old....any advice would be A LOT of help :D

You really do need to find another place to live. You signed a contract and are breaking it. It's not right and not fair to your landlord. I am an animal lover, but you have to understand that landlords get a lot of ruined apartments from irresponsible pet owners. It's not as simple as pick up and move, you're right. It's much more complex and it's about your not recognizing the property rights of the owners of the place. On the practical side, it's about what will happen to your cat if you're caught (she'll be seized and killed). Keep the cat, board up the window, and start checking out new apartments.

And yes, breaking a lease IS illegal. Breaking any contract is illegal. That's what contracts are for.

be creative. maybe shut the door of the room you do not want her in. what does she hate? maybe put a plant or statue or something she cannot get passed in that area.

this isn't too cruel. Put thumb tacks in a piece of cardboard & line the windowsill with it. After a few times she will stay out.

You are not being fair to your cat. What will you do when someone reports her?

I don't wish to be harsh, but I think you are being selfish and are putting your wants and needs ahead of what's best for your cat.

Consider trying to find another place to live or perhaps you have a friend or relative who could take care of the cat for you.

Good Luck!

Quit asking to do something illegal. That isn't allowed on Y!A. Just move if you don't like your landlord's restrictions and refuse to follow them.

You shouldn't have moved into a place which didn't allow cats in the first place, so this is ALL YOUR FAULT AND DOING.You having brought a cat there is illegal and you knew it was illegal. Now you are asking advice to further your illegal activity.

I love cats and I would never do something illegal which would jeopardize them. So own up to what you have done and how you are trying to screw over the cat and the landlord. You didn't have to move to where you now are, so the fact that you are in this predicament is your doing. Your cat and your landlord should not have to deal with you doing this illegal action.
