Ethical Dilema surrounding our 7 month old Calico cat/kitty?

Okay. Some of you may recall I asked wtf was wrong with my cat, and why she was only eating cold meats (i.e cooked hams) and shredded tuna (in brine). I THEN went on to ask if my kitty would get mauled and overpowered by a huge tomcat in heat, only to find out that male cats dont go into heat. That left me pretty confused as i always believed that 'in heat' was a term used for individuals DYING to get laid...no matter. My question is this:

a) Is It TRUE that female cats CHOOSE their time to go out and find a mr.cat ?

b) if so, i heard that only FEMALE cats go into 'heat' (Whatever the hell that means, cos man that terms confused me from the last question i posted...)

c) is it true that the female cats, DESIRE/LOVE/WANT to have their own little furry kitty babies ?

d) if 'c' holds any truth, answer 'e'

e) my family are considering getting our calico kitty 'spayed', well my sisters anyway. I have recently wondered bout the ethical dilema seeing as we love our cat to pieces

Cats don't think in abstract.. What that means is that a cat doesn't think of things that might happen, if anything it thinks about things that are happening now. Like, for instance, a cat will crawl up into a car and sleep on the engine without any thought to how it got so warm in the first place... If she is spayed, she won't have the urge to have kittens.. Now, she may still want to have a friend.. It might be a good idea to get her a neutered male cat as a friend.. They do need some companionship, but, mother cats tend to get annoyed with their kittens and less close to them as they grow up...

The other benefit of course is that you can save another cat from a shelter instead of having 4-5 more get killed because you decided to let your cat have kittens..

If she goes into heat, she will really really really want to breed because the hormones in her body are telling her she has to.. She can't think about all the cats that die in shelters.. She doesn't necessarily know that breeding means she will have kittens, nor does she know it will be hard to find her kittens a home.. All of those are good reasons for you to make a healthy decision for her now..

Cats are not people - they do not have the ability to decide or desire babies, and then go out and find a "man" to give them the babies.

You NEED to get your cat spayed - it's really not a choice or an ethical dilemma. It's really in the best interest of your cat so that she doesnt' get raped multiple times by the local tomcat (which can also give her diseases! ewh!) and then bring more animals into the world that won't have homes.

I wouldn't say kitty chooses it so much as her body says that it's ready.

Yes only lady cats go into heat. Males are ready as soon as they smell a lady cat in heat

Don't know about "c" i've heard that lady cats need to have one litter and go crazy/depressed/psychotic if they don't. Never had this problem...so I couldn't say. Miss Mindy is getting fixed next week w/o ever having a litter. (though seeing what kittens the tortie Mindy and orange/white tabby Xander would produce is tempting)

Good luck!

a) No--it's just nature taking it's course

b) Yes, only females go into heat--that means that she is ovulating and can become pregnant.

c) I don't really think so.

d) I would say get her spayed. If she has any mothering feelings, she'll likely take them out on you, or your family, or any other pets you have. ;) I don't really think you can go wrong by having her spayed.

..........

Incidentally, male cats don't "rape" female cats.

it sounds as in the adventure that your dogs is checking out you. Many dogs will manage different pets and their vendors in accordance to a dominance shape, (ex. a greater dogs will anticipate a smaller dogs to diminish bypass into opposite while he has a bone, or if a dogs reconizes the pinnacle of the homestead through fact the "alpha" of the kinfolk and obeys them yet disobeys those that it sees as much less dominant such through fact the babies) in case you enable your dogs to proceed growling at you and don't self-discipline it with a pointy "No!" or a easy smack on the nostril or the rump it may proceed to worsen through fact the dogs will start to work out itself through fact the "alpha" member of the homestead. while a dogs thinks this is the alpha it may exchange into over-shielding of toys, nutrition, or well-known areas interior the homestead, which comprise a usual carpet or laying area. A dogs that thinks it owns the area will think of of you greater of a challenger and could attempt to guard those particular products. it particularly is great if a dogs playfully growls over a sport of tug of conflict, yet while it agressively protects toys and areas then it particularly is a difficulty. a buddy of mine had a dogs with this same problem, it may growl first on the babies, then finally at them. quickly it began biting, and not playfully yet drawing blood. if that they had disciplined it greater the growling could have stopped early on and the biting could have in no way occured. while they began disciplining it greater and it grew to alter into greater mature the dogs calmed down. in case you self-discipline the dogs via merely giving it a pointy "No!" and letting it know that it can't act agressively in the direction of you, the dogs will start to work out you as greater dominant than itself and could admire you, shield you, and seem to you for defense. A properly knowledgeable dogs will admire and love its vendors, yet a dogs that doesn't thoroughly know its place interior the homestead carry could exchange into greater frightened and agressive.
