I found a strange orange bug on my cat. Its bigger than a flea, but it still seemed to want to burrow in her. It kinda had characteristics of a worm but its way too small to be a worm. It was a bug. I have never seen a bug like this before. I am in the pacific northwest if that helps identifying this bug.

Could be a harvest mite, they're orange - but never mind identifying it, just go to a vet and get some treatment! They sell treatments that will cover all the kinds of lice and mites that could be on your cat, so just start treating her and you won't have to worry what it is.

If you're really that curious, catch the bug and put it in a jar, your vet might be able to identify it when you go to get treatment.

If it seems to want to burrow in her it's probably a tick of some sort. I'm not familiar with your region, but that is what ticks do. You could put a piece of cottonball touched with rubbing alcohol into a jar or old prescription bottle and put the bug in there for future exam (by yourself or vet) and be careful where you let your cat out to. Also check some reference sites online or books. They're out there!!

Sorry I can't answer your question. However, I can suggest putting the bug inside a glass jar with a lid or if it's dead, maybe wrap it up in tissue paper and put it in a ziplock bag and bring it to the vet. They usually can identify what bugs are harmful for your cat.

Anyways, besides that I hope you can find your answer :)
