Anyone know why Tidy Cat litter recalled?

Went to Wal-Mart today to buy some more cat litter (my cats like the crystals blend tidy cats or the one with the dark blue lid) and there was none. We asked a person who worked there about it and they said they took them off the shelves because the dark blue kind was recalled, but they had no idea why. I have tried to find out but can't find anything. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Someone asked about this yesterday and a bunch of people reported not being able to buy several brands of cat litter at Walmart, yet of course not one manager had a clue why. But the list included Mimi crystals and their own brand, Special Kitty. It does appear to be more the crystal ones than the basic, but that's just a guess.



Walmart is way overdue to explain this, but that's how Walmart operates.

The Tidy Cat litter is on a "pull and hold". This may have something to do with the repackaging that someone else mentioned. They are waiting for some sort of packaging labels. There is nothing wrong with the cat litter. Too bad Walmart didn't do a better job on the "pull"ing and "hold"ing. If the litter had not been on the shelf, customers would never have been confronted with a "do not sell" situation and they would not have been concerned with the safety and well-being of their pets. If you already have some of this product in your home, feel free to use it without worry.

I called Purina 3x today, after a friend in another state called & asked me if I knew what was up (she knew I used the same litter). Purina says that they have NO recalls on ANY of their products. I went to my local walmart -- and had the same experience. I insisted on talking to the manager. I told the store manager that there was NO recall and that I had talked w/ Purina. He said that there was nothing he could do. Everything comes from "corporate". So, I called Purina and told them what the manager told me. I also told them that the shelves were FULL of Tiday Cats containers. It wasn't like there were none out. When I got home, I called Walmart's "corporate" customer service. I explained what had happened and the girl I talked w/ must have mentioned 4 times "Well, either the product was recalled or it was put on the shelves before it's sell date". I asked her if cat litter was "seasonal" ?? She kept repeating the same line about the "recall or too early". And then she said she'd have the store manager contact me ! I told her that the store manager said there was nothing THEY could do -- it was corporate. Clearly, they must have a "script" that they go from and can't come up with anything that actually makes logical sense ! I was able to buy Arm & Hammer....it will do in a pinch, but I sure hope Purina contacts Walmart and finds out what is up ! Needless to say, it was not a good trip to Walmart today !

Its not just Wal-mart and its not just the crystals. Pet smartt has also pulled the green antibacterial litter. I also work for a rescue, and was told by one of their associates that it was pulled and they had to write an incident report on it. Yet no one their seems to know why either. It is so frustrating. They were told that any customer who wanted could return it for a refund with or without a receipt. So I returned it and got a different variety. I have 5 kitties of my own and normally 1 to 2 foster kittens at any time. Wish someone would figure out what was going on.

I went to Wal-mart today in Evesham,NJ and as soon as the cashier scanned the litter container a buzzer rang and she said she could not sell this the product may have been recalled. I said to her "if it has been recalled why is it on the shelves?" A managing cashier came over and said something similar...basically jibberish.

Honestly....Walmart will always be screwed up...they look at coupons like they are poison pen letters...they stock their stores using the dirty shopping carts that are subject to the elements as well as kids and adults...they never have enough cashiers....their self checkout stinks....

I keep up on all the recalls with feline products...if I had to guess this is a 100% Walmart screwup.

The same thing happen to me. The only difference was there was some on the shelf, when I got to the check out the cashier scanned the bar code & told me that it wasn't accepting the bar code so, she couldn't sell the liter. I ask her, to speak to the Mgr he came sd that it had been recalled but, didn't know why. I ask then, why is it on the shelf? He proceeded to tell me that it got put out by accident. I advised him that there was a whole shelf full of that kind. I wished, they could have told me the reason of the recall cause, that is the only kind that my cat's like also. Look's like to me if a item has been recalled at any store then they would have received some kind of document stating the reason of the recall.

Walmart is the only place I know that carried this brand. Last weekend I was there and the shelf was well stacked with it, so I picked up 6 bags and after I got to the register was told the same thing, there was a recall. Anyway, I purchased Fresh Step Crystals at BJs and that works the same as Mimi.

They are on recall for repackaging. So are some of the tidy cat litters. Call different Wal-marts.

I have been using tidy cats light weight has blue crystals was on sale at sams and Walmart clearanced my cat has been vomiting and several things that have been recalled I notice Walmart and sams clearance them, still sell them to get rid of them, let the store know of recalls said they were not aware of recall.

I didn't hear about a recall, but they are repackaging some of their formulas. I didn't find anything on the web either.
