Cat can't Hiss?

Question

Is it possible for a kitten or cat to not know how to hiss? he's around 10 months old lastnight and the other night i was fighting with him to clip his back claws and he would release air like a human sigh, but no hiss. Sometimes ive even tried to make him hiss to see if he could, nothing! He was born with a viral problem so he's usually stuffy and his meows dont come out completely. But my question is, is it possible to a cat to never hiss?

Hi there...some cats just have no inclination to hiss, however under duress they may respond with hissing. It sounds like you have a kitten who is very well adjusted emotionally and I truly wouldn't want to encourage him to feel stressed enough to hiss. He is still young and it's important to keep all his experience as pleasant as possible so he can develop into a great cat.

All cats can hiss by instinct. However, since you mentioned your kitty has had a viral infection and he is stuffy and his meows don't come out right, this is most likely because his throat/inner voice box and all that is attached such as sinuses can all contribute to why your kitty is having a small issue. Also, have you ever had his hearing checked? He may be slightly deaf. This alos causes the "No Hissing" thing. Especially if your kitty is white with blue eyes. All white cats (pure white) with blue eyes are usually deaf. He may just have a case of kitty laringitis. I would just give him alot of kitty love and well, if he turns out he can never hiss, im sure you will still love him anyway.

It sounds to me like he was hissing. Releasing air like a human sigh IS a hiss.

His hissing may just sound a little more silent than most cats.



Anyway, why do you want to make him hiss?? Does it really matter??



To make him hiss, you are probably doing things that would stress him out or cause him fear, which could make him retaliate. Why do you want to do that? If you think about it, it is a little bit mean.

My cat Mia is going to be 4 years on next month ans I've had her just over a year. I only heard her hiss once about a week ago at a little girl who was visiting us who just wouldn't leave her alone. I think your cat is just a happy contented cat. I once had a cat that started purring when he was a kitten and never stopped. Well when he went to the Vet he stopped. I told the Vet(he was there for his shots) that I thought his pur box was broken (LOL) His name was Scrapper.

I think it sounds like he just doesn't want to hiss at you. He knows that you are not a threat, so he doesn't feel it is necessary. It is best not to put him in a situation where he would want to hiss. This would stress him out. My cat doesn't hiss at me and I really get him going! We wrestle and fight all the time!

I think your cat is okay. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I don't know about hissing, but my younger cat was a year old before he meowed for the first time. I was so proud - I called my mother and told her that Gizmo had said his first word!



Neither of my cats hiss at me. Even when I put them in the bathtub! (Yes, it was needed - they'd gotten into the crawl spaces in the basement!) They do hiss at dogs and cats who hiss at them.

Tibbins receives very indignant on the vet, she would not hiss yet she receives this rumbly growly yowly ingredient happening there :P She's also a biter - and my! Does she bite not person-friendly! Ouch! Archie is only a huge floppy teddy - he's dazzling. he's acquaintances with everyone and would not recommendations being prodded or poked. have you ever considered truly a style of videos, or cartoons, the position the little Victorian lady has a cat that she outfits up in bonnets and places in tiny cradles with lacy bedding? that could be Archie! Little does Willow comprehend that I pronounced her operating up those stairs to bounce on the nice and cozy temperature mattress, the time even as Willow develop into apparently 'Oh so dreadfully ill' (weeks after her spaying.. WEEKS!) even as she develop into interior the room with me.. not able to flow.. wanting such countless hugs and TLC.. finely shrink poultry delivered to her on her particular little plate.. (Oh for sure, we like her a lot we humour her ;D)

Our youngest cat is about the same age as yours.

I have never heard her hiss either, not even when our dog has tried chase her. She just stares him down.

He may never hiss.
