Question:
Cats and slug pellets?

How many cat owners know that slug pellets can poison cats if they consume them? My next door neighbours found a very ill cat in their garden a couple of weeks ago which was having seizures as well, and according to the vet they took it to it had probably eaten slug pellets. The cat eventually died.
I don't use slug pellets (or own a cat) so it's not a problem for me, but how many cat owners use slug pellets in their garden without considering the effect it could have on their pets?

This is all very true but I will let you know that there is a slug pellet that you can get that is pet and environment safe. I have it at home. All people have to do is ask the garden area for pet friendly products. they cost a little more but well worth the piece of mind!! I will post the name of the product when I get home!

It's a problem for dogs too. Our friends nearly lost their shih tzu to the same poisoning. Luckily they realized in time and he survived with no long-term effects.

A few places ban the type of slug and snail pellets that are dangerous to pets. Since there are non-toxic alternatives, I think they should be banned everywhere for this reason.

Edit: The safe brand is called Sluggo.

I've never heard of that. However, it's not surprising considering many things are poisonous to dogs and cats. Very sad to hear about the ill cat.

Good point and thanks for sharing the information. I never let my cats out and they do just fine inside. Too many bad things can happen to them.
