Not ALL cats catch mice and other vermin. Just because they are outdoors does not mean they are automatically good mousers. If you have mice, likely he is not catching them or there are too many of them for him to deal with. You might consider adding another cat. Contact local shelters and vets offices and ask specifically for "barn" cats or "mousers." They may not have any on hand but know people who will have some for you to have.

He will probably kill the mice outside, but not inside. Even an indoor cat can't kill mice in the walls or the attic, and it amazes me that you can have a house full of cats and the mice still come in. You should probably get some old-fashioned traps and bait them with peanut butter. They aren't that expensive, so you can throw them away when you've caught a mouse. Elaine is a very knowledgeable cat lady, so it's not often that I disagree with her, but I think the glue traps are inhumane. At least with the regular traps, there's a chance the mouse will be humanely killed.

Keep them out of your cat's reach, of course, and whatever you do, DON'T use poisons. Even if your cat can't get to poison bait, mice can squeeze in and out of the house, and if your cat eats a mouse that has ingested poison, then your cat will be poisoned. Not worth the risk.

Good luck!

I say go ahead and try... my outdoor cats kill mice all the time. But like the commenter above said, not all cats bother. If she/he doesn't catch them then try actual mouse traps.

You can let the cat in and see if he will, but not all cats are good mousers. Mine spends more time staring, wiggling her bum and gearing up to pounce, giving any animal time to get away. She has caught a few, but not many. Her first 'kill' was a dead mouse on a glue trap dragged from a neighbours yard. Made me laugh.

What works best are those sticky traps. Not all cats bother to catch mice. They have to be taught to kill them, it's not all that instinctive.
