My friends all have domestic short hairs - I notice when we come over, they RUN as fast as they can when we come in. They don't want to be pet and will run if we try to get close to them. They keep to themselves and could care less about anyone around them...I'm looking for the COMPLETE OPPOSITE of that! I know you won't know what your kitty's personality will be but is there a breed out there (that doesn't cost a lot of $$) that I can get with a loving, cuddly personality? I want to be able to pick up my cat, sit on the couch with it, and would like the kitty to want be around me, as well as guests in the house. Any suggestions?

Ragdolls and burmese cats are very loving and affectionate cats that love people. Plus, they are fluffy which makes them 50% more adorable than short-haired breeds.

What is cool about ragdolls is that they have been selectively bred so that they go limp (like a doll) when you pick them up!

Pet-quality kittens of these breeds DO cost a few hundred dollars, but if you're lucky you can find them at a rescue (Which I'd recommend anyway, there are too many homeless cats)

Go to your local shelter they have so many that need homes and spend some time getting to know some of them. If you are real lucky you might find one that is a Maine Coon or least part Maine Coon. They are the largest breed of domestic cat,Mine is so affectionate and is very mellow. He loves everyone, but I'm not sure he knows he is a cat. he follows me around like a dog would, and he doesn't seem interested in other cats. He also is perfectly content to be an indoor cat, it's like I've been outside once or twice don't need to do it again. He weighs about 20 lbs and wants to sit in my lap all the time.

Just like people, cats are the same. Selective on who they want to hang around with, and for how long!

My two are domestic long hair and short hair, and are so affectionate, and will come to anyone who walks in my house.

But if there is a lot of noise or commotion, they flee, and watch from a distance to see what the humans are up to! It doesn't mean they are not affectionate.

Go to your local shelter and spend some time with a couple of cats, they are looking to give someone devout attention and hopefully this is where you will find your constant unconditionally loving companion.

I have a Maine Coon. He's very affectionate and has a more dog-like personality. He loves being around people, loves to play and even likes dogs. He's big and beautiful! He sleeps with me, sits on the side of the tub when I take a bath and lets me carry him around like a baby all day long. He's always has to be in the same room as me. And people have told me he whines when I'm gone. My husband hates cats but he loves Baxter because he's so playful and friendly. Good luck finding a kitty.

Go to Yahoo pets and click on CAT.. there will be a cat breed test on the side. It's about 20 questions long and will pick the 6 best breed of cats depending on what information you put down.

Try it ^_^

Cats are all different individuals. I've met really sweet tabby cats and evil ones that bite for no reason. You should play with the kittens before taking them home and pick a friendly one. Also, my cat was very nice, but she didn't like visitors.

generally Persians and Himalayans are "lazy lap cats" (put prone to many health problems and require alot of grooming) but I suggest going to a local animal shelter where there may be hundreds of cats to pick from and pick the friendliest....

short haired cats are no more or less friendly - I think your friends just didnt socialize their cats well perhaps.

Not all cats like to be around strangers. But for some reason people like myself never have that problem. (I wonder why?). Most cats are used to being around their owner. So if you do get a pet most likely your pet would only want to be around you.

I have a calico, and she is very nice.... but tabbies are also nice and friendly..... but each cat has its own personality... adoption cards at a shelter usually say if the cat is friendly or not

Each cat is different and have their own personality. Adopt one from a local shelter or rescue.
