Cat Care portion of Purina website has good info re: nutrition. It recommends tuna as no more than 10% of your cat's diet, for several reasons. You can search on tuna. Here is a quote from the Purina site: "Most cats like tuna and, if it is fed often, they may become fixated on such a diet and refuse to eat a nutritionally complete and balanced cat food. Tuna and other fish are not nutritionally complete and balanced. They can have low levels of vitamin E. The resulting vitamin E deficiency may result in steatitis or “yellow fat” disease. Low levels of vitamin E are unable to prevent the oxidation of fatty acids and a yellow-pigmented substance is deposited in the cat’s body fat and causes an inflammatory response."
Regarding garlic, Purina says onions are bad, but a small amount of garlic is probably OK. (second ref)

I don't know about the garlic part but my vet told me it's safer to give youre cat tuna then to give them canned salmon. there's something about the processing and the little bones tear up intestines. But I have given my cat's tuna by reccomendation of our vet. We only give it to them once in a blue moon. Never has hurt them never made them sick none of that. But it's best to feed your cat in my own opinion Purina reason being it's low in ash and will help keep your cats from getting Urinary tract infections. had never heard that tuna had bacteria i'm sure if there was anything bad in tuna my vet wouldn't have reccomended tuna as an OCCASSDIONAL treat or for hiding meds in.

ask your pets doctor, should not be a problem other than your cat smelling like garlic all the time,
tuna in the cat contains more bateeria than cat food, hence human food that human can handle and cat food. Plus can tuna is loaded with sodium, unless you like cats with patches of fur, i wouldn't do that. and if you are rich enough to feed the cats raw tuna, (still germy like crazy) shell out for a can of fancy feast.

I'm not sure about the garlic but I feed my cat tuna and he seems fine with it, I think it depends on your cat.
