my cats kittens are five weeks old now and at 1 week they all looked skinny at that age! their eyes were still closed and were still crawling if its feeding from mum then is probably normal but keep an eye on it, as otheres have said it is probably the runt of the litter and will be fine! mine are 5 weeks now and are running all over the place still feeding from the mum and are on the litter tray and eating kitten food another 2 weeks and they will be going to their new home! i would never let them go til then.

Kittens should stay with their mothers until they are 6 weeks old. However, you can feed them warm kitten milk through a syringe or eye dropper until they are weaned and can eat kitten food.

The reason the kitten could be skinny is because it might have worms. You could take the kitten to a vet and they will normally prescribe some treatment to get rid of the worms effectively.

Another reason is because this kitten could be the 'runt' of the litter? When cats have large litters, the strongest kittens will always find their milk supply, leaving the little weaker kittens at the back of the queue and hungry. You could try feeding her with a syringe, however NEVER feed cats or kittens cow's milk because it contains lactose and cats are lactose intolerant.

If the kitten is the mum's first litter, she might be a bit dazzled by the whole idea of motherhood and might not be encouraging her kittens to feed from her, even though they should do it by instinct.

I think your best bet is to take the kitten to the vet, get her dewormed when she's old enough and feed her regularly using the eye dropper and warm kitten milk method. She should soon gain some weight.

Good luck with your kitty!

Observe the kitten....is it not getting fed by it's mother? If that's the case, it's possible the mother has rejected the kitten...you'll have to handraise the kitten in this case. But if it's not been rejected, it's best to leave the kitten with it's mom for 8 week...but better 12. I know it's super cute now, and at 6 weeks...but if it's not with it's mom for at least 8 week; your kitten won't have guidance from the mom, and could cause scratching, attacking, litter box problems.

A kitten should never be taken away from its Mother at a week old. Should be 8 weeks at least. Do not take the kitten.

1 week is just a little baby. You shouldn't take a kitten away from it's mum until it is 6 weeks old. It wil grow real quick, so don't stress. Thi wil give you pleanty of time to get toys and a bed and scratching post. Try getting a small teddy and puting it with the mum and other kittens that way when it is time to pick it up the teddy will have had a few weeks to smell like it's family and will transition better to your place...

the possibilities of a kitten that youthful surviving and not making use of a mom is narrow to none. that's rather intense, and in maximum situations a kitten that youthful must be tube fed HMR kitten formulation each a million-2 hours, around the clock. you apart from would could be stimulating her each time after she feeds by making use of taking a damp cotton ball or gauze and rubbing her backside (in one course, as a mom cat might lick). Kittens that youthful don't have the muscle mass to pass to the bathing room on their very own. they'll die in case you do no longer try this. i might pass purchase kitten formual, blend it with what you're giving to her now (50/50), and shop reducing the human formulation till she is weaned off of it. She desires kitten formulation to enhance and improve precise. in case you haven't any longer have been given the time or persistence to precise hand develop a kitten, i might take it to the humane society. it is not an uncomplicated interest, and you'd be up with the kitten surprisingly a lot for all time for the subsequent couple of weeks. you apart from would could shell out the money and take it to the vet, and bear in mind that when the kitten is sufficiently old, it desires this is set of kitten photos, and it must be spayed/neutered. in case you haven't any longer have been given the money for that, then it isn't the final time to have a cat. solid luck, and that i desire that your little kitten makes it.

Look at the kitten compared to the others in the litter, if it is the smallest it is probably the runt of the litter. That site will explain.

Also the kitten shouldn't be taken from the mother until it is 12 weeks old. 6 weeks is way to young.

She said it is staying with the mom for 6 weeks people. It's currently 1 week old though.

And as for your answer, it's a 1 week old kitten, it's going to be really little. It'll get bigger :P

If a kitten is that young, it's too young to leave it's mother. If you are buying it from a pet shop or private person it MUST be older. You should ring a vet and ask for some guidance.

It's too young to leave it's mum, so give it chance to get some weight on, don't take the weakest, there might be something wrong with it. They should be with their mum till 8 weeks. I'm getting mine next week but she is very lively and is gaining weight properly.

You don't mention why he is not still with mum, as kittens should be until they are twelve weeks old, to learn everything they need to that mum teaches best. If possible, get kitten back to mom until then.

1week old is way too young to leave its mother-its still on its mothers milk.

kittens shouldn't be rehomed until minimum age of 8weeks. they need that time to bond and develop socialation skills and behaviour skills with there litter mates.

http://www.paw-rescue.org/CATS/kittens.php

In many states, its illegal to buy a kitten before the age of 8weeks.

If it is one week old, it won't be crawling or feeding on proper kitten food

You don't say how many other kittens the mother has. You should buy a supplement for him and feed him with a teat.

you should not have a kitten under 8 weeks old - if its still with its mum see how it goes - but when you take it eventually if you do - please have a vet check it over

Could be the runt of the litter. I have two brother cats and one is a LOT skinnier than the other because he is the runt of the litter!
