We've been told to start using Canned Hill's Prescription Diet W/D Cat Food (mixing it with the old to make it a better transition) What I would like to know what other canned cat food is better and cheaper than Hill's??? I havent heard all that many good things about Hill's Prescription, Like how vets try to make you use it, the ingredients, etc... I would appreciate any advice! =)

Thanks.

Hill's W/D is used for over weight cats, or for cats who develop struvite crystals in their urine. If your cat is on W/D for his weight than a weight control diet by a good company such as purina, iams, eukanuba should be fine. If however your cat is on it for urinary crystals, W/D is about as cheap as you will find. Royal canin makes a food but it is much more expensive than the Hill's. The problem with W/D and a cat prone to bowel obstructions is that the dry W/D is very high in fiber, and is salty to help reduce weight and increase water intake to flush out the urinary tract. The wet food should be fine for preventing impaction though. I would double check with the vet to make sure he will not have any ill effects from a diet change.

And by the way Vets don't make you use it, the pets condition dictates what food the pet needs to be on, and for the most part Hill's is the cheapest option. You could always ask for a homemade diet to feed to your cat, but that requires a lot of work on the owner's part.

Too many That food should be illegal to sell as food for cats

I don't know why you were told to feed that.If you email me with the problem maybe I can help. In the meantime start feeding proper food for the species

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health

Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.

Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingredient a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?

Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s, constipation, and a host of other problems. Male cats are especially prone to blockages

from dry food. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. ( Have a fat cat?)

An even bigger problem is that it IS dry and it dehydrates no matter how much your cat drinks

Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food. Cats are not naturally big drinkers.

95% of the moisture is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Think about it.

Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don't use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.

http://www.catinfo.org/#My_Cat_is_Doing_…

You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn't have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all.

THE BEST CAT FOODS CONTAIN NO GRAINS NO BYPRODUCTS

Cats are meat eaters not cereal or rice eaters

Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.

Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get

Vetinarian diets The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza. http://iml.jou.ufl.edu/projects/Spring04…

If you want to eat truly healthy, lose body fat consistently, normalize your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, prevent cancer, and even boost your brain health and energy levels, you may have heard all over the news that the Paleo Diet has been found to be one of the best methods of achieving all of these benefits compared to any other popular "fad" diets out there. Go here https://tinyurl.im/aHMIt

The truth is that the Paleo Diet will never be considered a fad because it's just simply the way that humans evolved to eat over approximately 2 million years. And eating in a similar fashion to our ancestors has been proven time and time again to offer amazing health benefits, including prevention of most diseases of civilization such as cancer, heart disease, alzheimers, and other chronic conditions that are mostly caused by poor diet and lifestyle. One of the biggest misunderstandings about the Paleo Diet is that it's a meat-eating diet, or a super low-carb diet. This is not true

The vet's prescription diets are terrible. A high quality food that doesn't contain junk ingredients like grain fillers and low quality soy and meat by-products is much better for her. Look into brands like Wellness, Merrick, and Blue Buffalo. These are much better than the vet diets and cost about the same.
