Is there any complications that could arise from the fact that our three 2 day old kittens are already opening their eyes? I don't see any signs of trauma or infection, but I have never seen this happen before. Is there any precaution necessary?

hi my cats babies were due on 17april but were born on 21april within the first week most had opened their eyes, questioned my vet about and he explained that just because they were still in the womb after due date doesn't mean they stop developing this continues so their little eys actually open when they would have been seven to ten days old if they had been born on the correct day. they are all doing things that an eight week old kitten would be and most apart from two who have only just made it are nearly 2lb in weight. i just kept their lil eyes dry and clean and kept them out of strong light and in a draft free area. i have hand raised them with mum as mum couldn't feed them.

Hello,Funny you should ask this,I just bought a kitten 3wks. ago and when the lady brought her to me,she was the smallest month old kitten I had ever seen,in fact i asked her if she was sure she was 5wks. old and I know now she had lied to me.She couldn't eat anything but try and suck on my clothes, and her eyes were also opened, but you could tell she could'nt see from the haze over her eyes and she could'nt focus right. What I noticed was the amount of tearing she constantly was doing,so I called my vet,and I was told to make sure I wiped her little eyes with a warm cloth, the same as her mom would have been doing and to watch for any drainage in a yellow color,as the past 2 weeks went by,the tearing slowed down a bit,and I also kept her little eyes as dry as I could, and I also did'nt take her out in the direct sunlight to be to bright for her,the eyes are to delicate when thier that young,so just do the best you can and be a good mama to her and she well be fine, just always remember cold drafts, windy areas, and brightness she should stay away from untell you notice she can focus on her own.Have a wonderful day tonee(yvette)

hi Erin. on the grounds that each kitten is different, i don't see why you may challenge if 2 kittens have opened their eyes. basically "mom nature" doing her form of artwork! you would be exhausted and under pressure, having those kit of joys on your ideas, relax and till one shows signs and indications of ailment, bypass long with each individual kittens progression.

though not normal, some kittens will open their eyes even on day one. I don't think there is anything to worry about. usually it takes 7-10 days.
